In a baffling moment on the cricket field, Australian cricketer Riley Meredith left his team puzzled and handed the opposition immense joy with yet another brain fade incident.
The incident took place during the 2024-25 Sheffield Shield clash between South Australia and Tasmania in Hobart, a match that will be remembered as one of the closest contests in the tournament’s history.
South Australia batted first, declaring at 398/6 in the first innings. Tasmania managed only 203 runs before being bowled out. In their second innings, South Australia declared at 233/9, setting Tasmania a daunting target of 429 runs for victory.
Tasmania made a valiant effort in the chase, reaching 423 with nine wickets down and needing just four runs off the final ball for a remarkable victory. However, a costly ‘brain-fade’ by Riley Meredith resulted in a needless run-out that ended Tasmania’s hopes.
Meredith, on strike, hit the ball to deep cover, where South Australia’s Ben Manenti fielded it and threw to the bowler at the non-striker’s end to complete the run-out.
Meredith tried to push for an impossible second run, despite the ball going directly to the fielder. His partner sent him back, but he was run out in the process. If Meredith had stayed put, the match could have ended in a draw. You can watch the video here:

Riley Meredith’s costly ‘brain-fade’ run-out saw Tasmania dismissed for 426, narrowly missing the 429-run target. South Australia clinched a thrilling victory by just two runs—the slimmest possible margin.
