A video of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma comically mimicking Virat Kohli’s intense on-field celebration at the recent BCCI awards is trending on social media. Numerous present and former Indian cricketers received recognition in different categories at the awards ceremony in Hyderabad on January 23.

In a widely circulated video from the event, Rohit Sharma is playfully imitating his teammates and mimicking some of their well-known gestures, gaining popularity online. Initiating with his own pull shot, Rohit Sharma tried to mimic Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action and Suryakumar Yadav’s supla shot.

He then humorously imitated Virat Kohli celebrating a wicket in his extremely aggressive style.

Additionally, the Indian captain successfully imitated MS Dhoni’s iconic helicopter shot, took a bow resembling Shubman Gill, and concluded his act with his interpretation of Sachin Tendulkar’s uppercut.

Rohit is currently leading the Indian team in the first Test against England in Hyderabad. Kohli is absent from the squad for the initial two Tests, citing personal reasons. Despite Rohit being dismissed for 24 on Day 1, the hosts hold a strong position in the Test. Opting to bowl after losing the toss, India limited England to 246 in 64.3 overs, with spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja securing three wickets each. Axar Patel and Bumrah combined for the other four wickets.

In reply, India concluded Day 2 at 421-7, establishing a substantial first-innings lead of 175. KL Rahul contributed 86 runs off 123 balls, and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a powerful 80 off 74 deliveries. At the close of Day 2, Jadeja was unbeaten on 81 from 155 deliveries, and Axar was at 35 from 62. Srikar Bharat contributed 41, while Shreyas Iyer added a useful 35 earlier in the innings.

Rohit Sharma expresses confidence in India breaking their ICC trophy drought

Before the Hyderabad Test, Captain Rohit acknowledged the significant disappointment of not winning any ICC event in the past decade. However, he emphasized that the team is putting in maximum effort and conveyed confidence that their moment of success will arrive.

“The last three years have been great. Except winning the finals of ICC trophies, we have won everything. That’s one thing we’ve not been able to accomplish, but I think time will come. All we need to do is stay in a good mindset, not worry too much about the past, because you can’t change the past,” he told JioCinema.

India’s most recent victory in an ICC event occurred in 2013 when they secured the Champions Trophy.
