Rohit Sharma is currently active in only one international format—ODI cricket. He stepped away from T20Is after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024 and subsequently announced his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025.
The experienced opener is expected to feature in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match home ODI series against New Zealand, with the opening match scheduled to take place at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on January 11.
Rohit Sharma Marks Vijay Hazare Trophy Return With Fastest List A Century
The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 signalled Rohit Sharma’s return to domestic 50-over cricket after a gap of seven years. In Mumbai’s opening match against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the veteran opener produced a sensational 155 off 94 deliveries.
Sharma reached his century in just 63 balls, his fastest in List A cricket, hammering nine sixes and 18 fours at a strike rate of 164.89. His explosive knock powered Mumbai to a commanding eight-wicket win, as they chased down a target of 238 in only 30.3 overs.
However, Sharma was dismissed for a first-ball duck in Mumbai’s next game against Uttarakhand at the same venue. Despite his early exit, Mumbai posted a formidable 331/7 in 50 overs, driven by Hardik Tamore’s unbeaten 93 off 82 balls and half-centuries from brothers Sarfaraz Khan (55 off 49) and Musheer Khan (55 off 56).
Mumbai went on to secure a 51-run victory in that encounter. Led by Shardul Thakur, the side then defeated Chhattisgarh by nine wickets in their third league match, which Sharma missed. Mumbai currently sit atop the Group C standings and are set to face Goa on Wednesday, December 31.
