It was a happy ending of the India tour of England as the Rohit Sharma-led side managed a ‘classy’ win in Manchester, yesterday. India defeated the champions of the One Day International (ODI) cricket – England in the third and final game of the three-match ODI series by 5 wickets and won the series by 2 -1.

Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant hit the winning runs for India, off Joe Root’s full-length outside off delivery, bowled to commence the 43rd over.  After Pant’s heroic innings, skipper Sharma gave a ‘thumbs up’ to the 24-year-old. Pant too replied with the same reaction.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first at Old Trafford in Manchester. Indian bowlers did their best and managed to restrict the English batters at a score of 259, in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, in the series decider. England’s newest white-ball skipper Jos Buttler was the highest run-getter of the England innings. He scored much important 60 runs in 80 deliveries, with 3 boundaries and a couple of sixes.

It was Hardik Pandya who troubled the English batters, especially Liam Livingstone, with his accurate bouncers. Pandya scalped 4 wickets with conceding just 24 runs in 7 overs of his spell. Apart from him, Yuzvendra Chahal also picked 3 wickets, whereas Mohammed Siraj captured the two vital wickets of in-form Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.

Rishabh-Hardik duo shines in the series decider

In reply, India lost their top three batters within the powerplay. Rishabh Pant, India’s star from the Birmingham Test, again turned the tables around with his unbeaten knock of 125 runs in 113 deliveries. He smashed 16 fours and 2 sixes during his time on the crease. Pandya also assisted Pant in the tricky chase and went on to score 71 runs in merely 55 balls, with 10 fours.

Both the batters built a partnership of 133 runs to seal the famous victory. The lefty wicketkeeper-batter scored his maiden ODI hundred and aided India to continue a victorious run across the world. In the end, it was Jadeja and Pant on the field with a 50-run stand in their account.

Besides, the Indian team will be back in action again in West Indies as the ‘Men in Blue’ are set to play 3 ODIs and 5 T20 Internationals over there. The tour will commence on July 22.
