Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar shared a warm hug with Oman captain Jatinder Singh following a spirited performance by Oman against Team India in their Asia Cup 2025 clash in Abu Dhabi on Friday, September 19. During the post-match presentation, Manjrekar praised Jatinder as a “very likable cricketer” for his calm and composed demeanor.

Oman put up a disciplined effort with the ball, restricting a strong Indian batting line-up to 188/8, and made the chase challenging for the Men in Blue. Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem forged a 56-run partnership, followed by a 93-run stand between Kaleem and Hammad Mirza, putting India under pressure.

Despite Oman’s resistance, India’s experience in key moments helped them secure a 21-run victory, avoiding a potential upset before the Super 4 stage. The match was also historic for Kaleem and Mirza, who both scored half-centuries in the first-ever international encounter between the two sides.

As Jatinder approached for a chat during the post-match presentation, Sanjay Manjrekar remarked:

“Everytime I look at you, I first feel like giving you a hug. You are a very, very likeable cricketer. Excellent performance today, you must be so proud of your team.”

Jatinder Singh Cites Lack Of Experience And Exposure Behind Oman’s Loss To India

While the right-handed batter expressed pride in his team, he noted that a bit more exposure would have greatly benefited them. At the same time, Jatinder shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifier, telling ESPNcricinfo:

“I am extremely proud of the unit. The way they came up, they had their plans and executed them well. They were very much in the present. So proud of the way they have shown their character in the crunch situation. The hype of the tournament was there in the mind. We lack a little experience and exposure. This game was a blessing in disguise. We have a (T20) World Cup qualifier happening in Oman and the boys are ready.”
