[WATCH]- Second Chance Wasted As Rohit Sharma Falls For 11 In IND vs NZ 3rd ODI
Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma endured a disappointing outing with the bat in the third and final ODI between India and New Zealand at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 18. The right-handed opener was dismissed for 11 off 13 deliveries, with India losing their first wicket at 28.

The setback occurred in the fourth over of the chase when Zak Foulkes sent down a length delivery on middle stump. Rohit attempted to go over the infield but failed to time the shot, offering a straightforward catch to Kristian Clarke at mid-on, well inside the 30-yard circle.

Notably, the dismissal came just two balls after Rohit had been given a reprieve, as wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay spilled a chance when he was on seven. Although Rohit followed it up with a boundary, he could not capitalize on the opportunity and was soon on his way back.

Rohit Sharma had modest returns in the first two ODIs against New Zealand, scoring 24 and 26 respectively. Consequently, he ended the three-match series with a total of 61 runs across three innings. Following the underwhelming performances, the veteran batter could slip further in the ICC ODI batting rankings.

In the latest update released on January 14, the 38-year-old had already dropped two spots to sit at third place.

Rohit Sharma Falls Cheap As New Zealand Set 338 In Series Decider

New Zealand started strongly in the third ODI against India, posting 337/8 in their 50 overs and dismissing Rohit Sharma cheaply. Alongside Zak Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson claimed the wicket of India’s captain Shubman Gill for 23. At the time of writing, India were 45/2 after 6.4 overs, with Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer at the crease.

Earlier, India chose to bowl first and made early inroads, reducing New Zealand to 58/3 in 12.1 overs. However, Dayl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips counter-attacked, each scoring centuries and putting together a 219-run stand in this crucial, must-win match. Mitchell finished with 137 off 131 balls, while Phillips contributed 106 off 88.

Skipper Michael Bracewell added a quick cameo of 28 from 18 balls, hitting three sixes and a four. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were the standout bowlers, taking three wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav claimed one apiece.

Historically, India have never lost a home ODI series to New Zealand and have won all seven previous encounters at this venue.
