In the Lanka Premier League (LPL) game on Thursday, July 18, at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pakistan player Shadab Khan made an outstanding catch at backward point. The teams were Colombo Strikers and Kandy Falcons in the Eliminator match. The Kandy Falcons were 79/5 after 10 overs, chasing 160 runs. The 11th over was bowled by Matheesha Pathirana who took Chaturanga de Silva’s wicket on the second delivery.
The left-handed batsman maneuvered himself into a space before hitting the ball; in response, Shadab Khan managed to fly to his left to a take sensational catch using both hands that led to the dismissal of Chaturanga on 9 from eight deliveries and, consequently, the team’s batting line-up went down like a pack of cards at 83 for six after 10.2 overs.

Later on Kamindu Mendis (54 off 36 balls) partnered with Dasun Shanaka of Kandy Falcons, scoring 69 runs in 40 balls for the seventh wicket that made them favourites to win the game. Ramesh Mendis won it for Kandy by two wickets when they had eight balls left to spare.
Sadeera Samarawickrama’s fifty was not enough for the Colombo Strikers to secure a win
The Colombo Strikers batted first after they were told to do so and the beginning wasn’t good as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Sadeera Samarawickrama provided the impetus for the Strikers scoring a fine 62 off 45 deliveries even though he hit seven boundaries.
Dunith Wellalage also made valuable contribution adding 28 runs from just 21 balls as Colombo posted 159/8 having completed their 20 overs. During the game, the Strikers had the upper hand especially after the Kandy Falcons were 83/6 in 10.2 overs, but a wonderful partnership between Kamindu Mendis and Dasun Shanaka drastically altered the game’s course.
Binura Fernando and Matheesha Pathirana both took three wickets each, however they ended up losing after Kandy beat Kindy by two wickets. On saturday the 20th of July, the Kandy Falcons will be playing against the Jaffna Kings at the qualifier 2 of the Lanka Premier League.
