On Day 2 of the second India-Bangladesh Test at Mirpur, a similar incident was seen. Virat Kohli is very difficult to keep silent on the field. After Bangladesh’s batters began wasting time with weaker lights, Kohli became agitated.

Angry by the antics of Bangladesh’s hitters, Kohli indicated to Najmul Hossain to take off his shirt. After the fifth ball of the sixth over, as the umpires signalled for stumps, Shanto began tying his shoelaces.

The former India captain was not pleased when Shanto stooped to tie his shoelaces at the non-striker’s end. Mocking Shanto for wasting time, Virat Kohli started tugging his jersey and took a shot at the batter, what many claimed was “Shirt bhi khol le apna” (Open your shirt as well).

Incidentally, Najmul Shanto wasn’t the only one who caused delays in the proceedings. Before Bangladesh came out to bat in the second innings, Shanto requested a new bat, looked over all the ones the 12th man brought, but kept using the one he was using.

India scored 19/0 on Day 2 to open the day and went on to score 314/10, giving them an 87-run lead in the first innings. India were reduced to 94/4 at one point after losing both of their early openers.

Together with Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, who had a strong performance in the first Test, helped India escape a precarious scenario. As Iyer scored 87 and Pant added 93, both hitters fell short of their individual century. For the fifth wicket, they scored 159 runs together.

India need 100 runs to win the series

India will be chasing a target of 145 runs to whitewash the hosts, Bangladesh after dismissing them for 231 runs. Amongst the bowlers, Axar Patel took 3 wickets whereas Mohammad Siraj and Ravichandran Ashwin took two wickets each with Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat picking one each.

At the end of Day 3, the tourists are struggling at 45/4 with the top order already back in the hut. Axar Patel played a counter-attacking knock of 26* and will have to keep up the good work as India look to seal the series.
