[WATCH]- Shreyas Iyer Spotted In Mumbai Cafe Following Asia Cup 2025 Omission
Shreyas Iyer

Team India’s in-form batter Shreyas Iyer was spotted leaving the ‘Boojee’ café in Mumbai, smiling despite being left out of the Asia Cup 2025 squad. A video shared on Punjab Kings’ official Instagram showed the 30-year-old dressed in a blue t-shirt, black shorts, and red sneakers.

Iyer was one of the biggest omissions from the 17-member squad, with selectors opting for Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh to fill the middle and lower-middle order batting slots. Having played a pivotal role in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph in the UAE, Iyer’s experience could have been crucial for the team.

Surprisingly, the selectors didn’t even include him as a standby option.

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar spoke on Iyer’s omission during a press conference, as reported by Hindustan Times:

“With regards to Shreyas Iyer, I mean, you need to tell him who he can replace. No fault of his, nor is it ours. It’s just that we have to pick 15 at the moment, he’ll have to wait for his chance.”

The star cricketer enjoyed a brilliant IPL season, amassing 604 runs in 17 matches and leading Punjab Kings to their first final since 2014.

Shreyas Iyer’s Last T20 Appearance For India Was In December 2023

Meanwhile, the aggressive right-handed batter hasn’t featured in a T20I since December 2023. Iyer boasts impressive T20I stats, scoring 1,104 runs in 51 matches at an average of 30.66 and a strike rate of 136.12, including eight fifties.

Team India will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10 at the Dubai International Stadium. Their high-profile clash with Pakistan is scheduled for September 14 at the same venue. Having won the 50-over edition in 2023, the Men in Blue enter the tournament as defending champions.
