[WATCH]- Shubman Gill Gets Out Softly After Scoring A Stunning Knock In 2nd Test vs England

India skipper Shubman Gill narrowly missed out on a historic triple century on Day 2 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Thursday, July 3. The right-hander was dismissed for a brilliant 269 off 387 balls, hitting 30 fours and three sixes.

Despite missing the milestone, the 25-year-old set a new record for the highest individual score by an Indian Test captain, surpassing Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 254 against South Africa in 2019. His innings ended with a soft dismissal as he was caught by Ollie Pope at short leg off Josh Tongue’s bowling.

The breakthrough came in the 144th over when Tongue bowled a short ball that Gill gently tapped towards square leg, only for it to loop straight to the fielder. As he walked off, Gill received a standing ovation from the crowd and his teammates in appreciation of his remarkable knock.

During his innings, Shubman Gill built a 203-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja and later added 144 runs with Washington Sundar for the sixth and seventh wickets, respectively. With his score of 269, Gill now holds the third-highest individual score by an Indian batter in overseas Tests—only behind Virender Sehwag’s 309 in Multan (2004) and Rahul Dravid’s 270 in Rawalpindi (2004), both against Pakistan.
