Vice-captain Shubman Gill reached Bhubaneswar on Saturday night as he gears up for his highly awaited comeback in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. The 26-year-old had missed the ODI leg of the tour after sustaining a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata, which ruled him out of the remainder of the red-ball series as well.
Gill reportedly arrived in Bhubaneswar “fully recovered” from the injury. A viral video on social media shows him on the team bus, seated beside his childhood friend and teammate Abhishek Sharma.

Shubman Gill has regained complete fitness following a short training phase at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he spent a few days batting, fielding, and undergoing final assessments with the board’s medical staff. Head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed his availability for international action after the third ODI in Visakhapatnam, stating that Gill had been given the green light to return.
“Yes, Shubman is ready to start. That’s why he has been selected. He is fit, fine, and hungry to go,” Gambhir said.
India And South Africa Arrive In Bhubaneswar, Shift Focus To Cuttack Match
A majority of the Indian and South African players landed in Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning, flying in from Visakhapatnam on a chartered aircraft. Gill, who wasn’t part of the ODI squad, joined the teams later in the day. Attention has now shifted to the next clash in Cuttack, with preparations already underway.
According to local reports, Hardik Pandya wasted no time getting started. The all-rounder headed to Barabati Stadium on Sunday evening for a private training session, becoming one of the first players to begin on-field practice ahead of the upcoming match.
