India skipper Shubman Gill reached a significant milestone with the bat on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Lord’s, London, on Friday, July 11. The right-hander surpassed former captain Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer by an Indian captain in a Test series in England.

Coming into the innings with 585 runs from his last four outings, the 25-year-old needed only nine more to break Kohli’s record. He achieved the feat by striking a boundary off Chris Woakes in the 28th over of India’s first innings. Gill has had an outstanding start to his captaincy career.

He kicked off the series with a brilliant 147 in the first Test at Headingley. He followed it up with exceptional knocks of 269 and 161 in the second Test at Edgbaston, leading India to a commanding 336-run victory.
