[WATCH] Shubman Gill Warned By Umpire After Controversial Catch In IND vs AUS Semifinal

India’s star batter, Shubman Gill, received a warning from the umpire during the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal against Australia on Tuesday, March 4, in Dubai. The on-field umpire spoke to Gill after he took a stunning running catch to dismiss Australian opener Travis Head.

Head, who had an early reprieve when Mohammed Shami dropped him, got off to a strong start. The left-hander played fluently, hitting five fours and two sixes in his 39-run knock. However, his innings was cut short when Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed him on the second ball of the ninth over.

Attempting a lofted shot, Head mistimed it, and Gill, stationed at long-off, covered good ground to complete a brilliant running catch. However, he immediately threw the ball away in celebration. As a result, the umpire warned him to hold onto the catch for a little longer to ensure complete control.

Head’s dismissal was a crucial breakthrough for India, as he seemed poised for a big knock in this high-stakes semifinal.

Shubman Gill’s journey in the 2025 Champions Trophy so far

Shubman Gill has performed well with the bat in the ongoing 2025 Champions Trophy, emerging as India’s second-highest run-scorer before the semifinal. In three matches, he has amassed 149 runs at an impressive average of 74.50, including an unbeaten century.

His standout performance came in India’s opening game against Bangladesh, where he anchored the chase on a tricky pitch with a composed 101* off 129 balls, hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes to help India secure a six-wicket victory while chasing 229.

Against Pakistan, Gill looked in good touch, scoring 46 off 52 balls with 7 boundaries but fell short of converting his start into a bigger knock. His only failure in the tournament came against New Zealand, where he managed just 2 runs off 7 deliveries.

As India battles Australia in the crucial semifinal, Gill will be eager to deliver another strong performance and help his team secure a place in the final.
