Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicket-keeper Sam Billings produced brilliant glovework behind the stumps to catch debutant Dewald Brevis short of his crease. The young Proteas had a short-lived stay in the middle but he impressed everyone with his clean hitting.
The breakthrough came against the run of play just when Mumbai Indians were threatening to take the game away at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.
The incident took place in the penultimate ball of the eighth over when Billings was quick to remove the bails. Varun Chakravarthy bowled one slower through the air.
Dewald Brevis slog sweeps and misses it from outside the off-stump. He stretched forward to play the shot and the back foot was outside the crease, doesn’t get it back but Sam Billings had the bails off in a flash with minimal followthrough.
A crucial breakthrough for the Kolkata franchise as Dewald Brevis was threatening to take the game away only in his IPL debut.

Kolkata dominate proceedings after opting to bowl first
The KKR bowlers lived up to the expectation of their captain Shreyas Iyer bowling a tight line and length making it difficult for the Mumbai Indians to get going. Skipper Rohit Sharma perished trying to take Umesh Yadav to cleaners only to top-edging one to Sam Billings.
Dewald Brevis showed some intent hitting a couple of shots but a smart work from Billings ended his stay in the middle. Mumbai were at 54/2 at the halfway stage and it was followed by another wicket as Ishan Kishan tried to break the shackles.
