Last year’s Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan returned to net practice ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024. He was retained by the franchise ahead of the 2024 IPL auction to be held on 19th December in Dubai.
He was seen playing defensive strokes and also showed his attacking strokes. Shikhar Dhawan will be featuring for Punjab Kings after a gap of 6 months and looks to continue his brilliant form in the upcoming IPL 2024.
Dhawan has been a consistent performer for the Punjab Kings. He was bought by the franchise in the IPL 2022 auction and showed his class with his batting abilities. PBKS struggled to qualify for the knockout stage in the last few tournaments.
The stylish left-handed batter did not play the full quota of matches in IPL 2023. He scored 373 runs in 11 matches (11 innings) with 3 half-centuries including the best score of 99 not out against Sunrisers Hyderabad helped Punjab Kings recover from a tough situation to post a decent total.
Despite his performance, PBKS lost the match in a one-sided contest. Dhawan was the leading run scorer in the tournament for Punjab Kings but could not his side qualify for the knockout stage.
Punjab Kings looked out of the sort in the later stages of the tournament last year. They finished 8th in the points table behind Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. PBKS won 6 matches while losing 8 matches in the 14 matches they played.

Shikhar Dhawan made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in 2008. He then featured for Mumbai Indians in the 2009-2010 edition of this tournament. After this, Dhawan played for Deccan Chargers for two years including 2011-2012.
From 2013-2018, Dhawan had great partnerships with David Warner for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was then bought by the Delhi Capitals franchise in 2019 and played till 2021.

Dhawan’s best season came during the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. He scored 618 runs from 17 matches (17 innings) including 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries with the best score of 106 not out which helped Delhi Capitals to qualify for the finals.
He followed with another superb season for Delhi Capitals in 2021 with 587 runs from 16 matches (16 innings) including 3 half-centuries. During that season, Delhi Capitals lost in the qualifier 2 to Kolkata Knight Riders in a low low-scoring thriller.
