[WATCH] Steve Smith Smashes A Six And The Ball Lands On The Roof

Steven Smith continued his hot streak in the Big Bash League 2022-23 with another monster knock in Monday’s match between the Sydney Sixers and the Hobart Hurricanes (January 22). He hit 66 off 33 balls, including four fours and six sixes, to help the Sixers score 180/7 while batting first. He didn’t get his third consecutive hundred, but he made headlines again by hitting a six onto the rooftop during his inning.

Smith began his match against the Hurricanes with a big six and two fours off Joel Paris’ deliveries in the second over, after storming two quick hundreds. He went on to hit five more sixes, bringing his total to 24 from four BBL innings this season.

Steve Smith reached fifty in the seventh over of the innings and needed only 22 balls to do so. He reached fifty with a six and four off Tim David’s back-to-back deliveries in the seventh over. As the ball landed on the rooftop of Hobart’s Bellerive Oval, his six took the breath away. Smith picked up the delivery for a six over the deep square leg out of the ground despite the fact that it was well outside off.

Steve Smith has been in sublime form

Smith completed his 22-ball half-century with a four off the next delivery. In the next over, he added another six and four to Faheem Ashraf’s deliveries. However, he was caught in front of the stumps by Nathan Ellis in the ninth over, denying him another century.

Following Smith’s dismissal, captain Moises Henriques scored 23* off 16 balls and pacer Ben Dwarshuis hit 30 off 16 balls to help the Sixers to 180/7 in their final group-stage match. With nine wins from 13 games this season, the Sixers have already secured a spot in the Qualifier 1 match against the Perth Scorchers.
