Suryakumar Yadav made a heartfelt gesture towards his wife, Devisha Shetty, at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, May 6. The right-handed batsman slammed a century, including a six, guiding Mumbai Indians (MI) to victory against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an IPL 2024 match.

The 33-year-old remained unbeaten on 102 runs from 51 balls, showcasing a powerful innings with six sixes and 12 boundaries. Suryakumar partnered with Tilak Varma for an unbeaten 143-run stand for the fourth wicket, rescuing MI from a precarious position of 31/3 and steering the team to victory.

After reaching his century, Suryakumar was captured having a phone conversation with his wife, Devisha Shetty, sharing special moments together. Interestingly, Devisha was present in the stands at Wankhede while attending the call. MI shared the moment on X with the caption:

“I feel it was the need of the hour for me” –Suryakumar Yadav’s response to his century in IPL 2024 against SRH

Suryakumar Yadav expressed joy in scoring his second IPL century against SRH, contributing to MI’s victory on Monday. He was pleased to see his practice shot translate into success during the match. In the post-match interview, he stated:

“I feel it was the need of the hour for me. So I went out to bat, needed someone to bat till the end. I just enjoyed my time.”

“[On his shot selection] It’s from the Mumbai school of arts, have played a lot of cricket at Wankhede. When the ball stopped seaming, I played all my shots that I practice in the nets,” Suryakumar added.

Suryakumar Yadav has accumulated 334 runs in nine IPL 2024 matches at a strike rate of 176.71, featuring one century and three half-centuries.

He aims to maintain his exceptional form in the remaining two games for MI before the 2024 T20 World Cup. His performance is crucial for Team India’s success at the ICC event.
