Suryakumar Yadav captained Team India commendably throughout the 2025 Asia Cup but found runs hard to come by. The 35-year-old managed just 72 runs in seven matches, averaging 18 with a strike rate of 101.40. In the final against Pakistan, his early dismissal for just one run off five balls left India struggling at 10/2 while chasing 147.

However, his Mumbai Indians teammate Tilak Varma played a stellar innings, scoring an unbeaten 69 off 53 deliveries, steering India to a memorable victory.

“Not Out Of Form, Just Short On Runs”: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav acknowledged falling short on the run front, even though he felt he was in reasonable batting form following the 2025 Asia Cup. Since taking over as India’s permanent T20I captain after the 2024 T20 World Cup, Surya has overseen remarkable team success.

Under his leadership, the Men in Blue have won 20 of their last 22 T20Is, despite the seasoned batter averaging just 18.33 during this period.

“I feel I am not out of form, I feel I am out of runs. I believe more in what I am doing in the nets and my preparation. So in matches, things are on autopilot.,” said Surya (via ESPN Cricinfo).

He further added:

“What we wanted to achieve in this tournament, we have achieved. There are a lot of things which you don’t get to achieve in a bilateral tournament. This was like a knockout tournament.”
