[WATCH]- Suryakumar Yadav’s Compassionate Gesture For Dunith Wellalage Steals The Spotlight

India captain Suryakumar Yadav approached Sri Lanka all-rounder Dunith Wellalage after their Asia Cup clash at the Dubai International Stadium. A video shared by official broadcaster Sony Sports shows Yadav walking up to Wellalage, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder, and sharing some comforting words. Wellalage had tragically lost his father during Sri Lanka’s match against Afghanistan.

After the match, cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya informed Wellalage of the loss, prompting him to return to Colombo for the last rites. Despite the personal tragedy, Wellalage displayed remarkable resilience by rejoining the team for the game against Bangladesh. However, he struggled on the field and was subsequently left out of the playing XI for the final two matches.

Heartbreak For Sri Lanka After Thrilling Finish

After defeats to Bangladesh and Pakistan, Sri Lanka were out of contention for the final, but a victory over India could have served as a major confidence booster ahead of the T20 World Cup. Despite doing many things right, they still fell short against India. Choosing to bowl first, Sri Lanka were taken apart by Abhishek Sharma, who smashed 61 for his third straight half-century, and Tilak Varma (49), as India posted 202-5.

Although it was a daunting target considering recent results, Sri Lanka responded aggressively. Pathum Nissanka struck a superb 107 while Kusal Perera added 58, and at 134-1 in 12 overs, the chase seemed firmly in their grasp. However, India clawed back brilliantly to push the match into a Super Over.

Arshdeep Singh conceded only two runs, and Suryakumar Yadav sealed the deal with a boundary off the very first ball, extending India’s unbeaten run. India now face Pakistan in the final on September 28.
