The Indian team began the training with warm-ups followed by net sessions. India’s wicket-keeper’s Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha are back and were spotted doing the wicket-keeping drills. Rishabh had tested positive for Covid-19 a few weeks back, while Saha was deemed as a close contact of another covid-19 positive member from the Indian camp, Dayanand Garani. Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the other batsmen were seen polishing their skills to counter the British conditions.
India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane also joined the training session. Rahane has a hamstring swelling and hence missed the three-day warm-up match against County Select XI. However, he is expected to attain fitness before the start of the series. Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Prasidh Krishna, and other Indian bowlers bowled in the nets to get into the groove.
BCCI working out on sending backup options for Team India to England
India’s opener Prithvi Shaw and middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav are all set to join the Indian team in England, as per reports. Both Shaw and Suryakumar are in Sri Lanka with India’s limited-overs squad.
After injuries to Shubhman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Washington Sundar, the Indian team management has requested for replacements. The selection committee in discussion with Virat Kohli and Ravi Shashtri has zeroed in on the names of Shaw and Suryakumar. However, there has been no official communication from the BCCI regarding this yet.
