Team India is set to play the second ODI against South Africa in the three-match series on Tuesday, December 19 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha, formerly called as Port Elizabeth. As the players landed in the city for the upcoming game, they struggled to pronounce the host city, Gqeberha.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India shared a video on social media as Team India landed in Gqeberha for the second ODI. The players were asked to pronounce the host city’s name in the video. Skipper KL Rahul expressed that he is not sure how to pronounce the name. Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal and Tilak Varma also couldn’t get it right.

“What is it called? I do not know how to pronounce it,” Rahul said.

Sharing the video, the BCCI wrote, “Tomorrow India will play the second ODI in 𝐆𝐪𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐚. We ask #TeamIndia members to spell/pronounce the city’s name. Did they get it right? #SAvIND”

India ODI eyes series win against South Africa

Team India secured an emphatic win in the first ODI against South Africa on Sunday, December 12 at the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. They bowled the hosts out for a paltry 116 runs, bowling first. Arshdep Singh took a five-wicket haul in the innings, while Avesh Khan picked up four wickets. In response, India chased it down with eight wickets in hand. Debutant Sai Sudharsan top-scored in the innings with an unbeaten 55 runs knock. Shreyas Iyer also scored a fifty, to take India home.

The visitors are now 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series. The second ODI is set to take place on Tuesday, December 19 in Gqerberha, while the final match will take place at Paarl on Thursday, December 21. India will be without the services of Shreyas Iyer for the last two matches. Shreyas will join the Indian Test squad and prepare for the upcoming series.
