In the second T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi faced a brutal onslaught from New Zealand’s Tim Seifert. In just one over, Seifert smashed four sixes, accumulating 26 runs against the Pakistani pacer. One of those hits was a monstrous 119-meter six at University Oval in Dunedin.
Shaheen ended up conceding 31 runs in his three-over spell, with most of the damage coming from that single over. This aggressive batting display helped New Zealand chase down Pakistan’s target of 135/9 with ease, securing a dominant six-wicket win in the rain-shortened 15-over contest.

Pakistan’s Improved Batting Performance Not Enough
Despite their loss, Pakistan showed signs of improvement compared to their performance in the first T20I. Batting first, they managed to post a competitive total of 135/9, an improvement from their previous outing. However, their bowling unit once again struggled against the Kiwis, allowing them to chase down the target comfortably.
Captain Agha Salman acknowledged in the post-match presentation that while Pakistan’s fielding was commendable and their bowling improved in patches, they still needed to step up in crucial areas. He specifically pointed out the need for both the batting and bowling units to perform better during the powerplay phase.
Pakistan in Must-Win Situation After 0-2 Deficit
With this defeat, Pakistan now trails 0-2 in the five-match series, making their next match a must-win to keep the series alive. The skipper has urged his top-order batters to put up a stronger performance in the early overs to avoid falling behind in the game.
He emphasized that adapting to the conditions and improving their approach in the powerplay is key to bouncing back in the series. If Pakistan fails to find solutions quickly, New Zealand could seal the series in the upcoming match, leaving the visitors with no chance of a comeback.
