SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Mohammad Shami has joined the team camp ahead of IPL 2025, following his stellar performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The experienced seamer played a key role in India’s title-winning campaign, finishing as the joint second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament.
Shami missed the 2024 IPL due to an ankle injury that required surgery. He made his return through domestic cricket for Bengal before featuring in India’s white-ball series against England in early 2025, gradually regaining his rhythm.
Now, he is expected to be a crucial part of SRH’s revamped bowling attack, led by skipper Pat Cummins. Several franchises engaged in a bidding war for Shami during the IPL 2025 mega auction, but SRH secured him for ₹10 crore. His former team, Gujarat Titans (GT), had the Right to Match option but chose not to use it.

“Excited to Experience the Incredible Orange Army” – Mohammad Shami on Joining SRH for IPL 2025
Upon joining the SRH camp, Mohammed Shami discussed the challenges of adapting to a new franchise. This will be the veteran pacer’s fifth IPL team, having previously played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Daredevils, Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Gujarat Titans (GT).
“So, there’s a lot of excitement whenever you join a new team, it is important to understand its environment and culture. When it comes to a city like Hyderabad, the excitement is even greater. I cannot wait to experience the incredible Orange Army,” Shami said in the same video released by the franchise on March 18 (via Instagram).
“I have only one message for the Orange Army – Please keep showing your love and supporting us. Let’s play with Fire,” he added.
