Rishabh Pant was a heartbroken skipper after his side lost to RCB by just 1 run in match 22 of IPL 2021. With six needed off the final ball DC finished at 170/4 in their 20 overs. This win has taken RCB to the top of the points table once again while Delhi are placed third. All the games are very evenly contested with teams not leaving even an inch of space for victory.

On Tuesday, RCB batting first scored 171/5 on the back of AB De Villiers’ 42-ball 75. Glenn Maxwell and Rajat Patidar played cameos as well.

DC got off to a torrid start chasing the target of 172 runs and lost the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Steve Smith inside the first four overs. Pant was facing Mohammed Siraj in the final over when DC required 10 runs from the final two balls. The wicket-keeper batsman managed to hit two boundaries, scoring 8 runs but couldn’t find that extra run that could’ve taken DC into the Super Over.

Both Pant and Hetmyer were devastated by the result of the game. A video posted on IPL’s Twitter handle exactly showed the diferent expressions of the players from both camps. While RCB celebrated a boundary that took them to a win, Pant and Hetmyer looked lost and disappointed to the core. Within that, a clip of Virat Kohli consoling young Rishabh Pant became the moment of the match.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli highlighted the fielding lapses on RCB’s part that led to the game getting so close.

“At one stage I thought it was getting away, but Siraj’s final over gave us confidence and we thought he would manage a professional and clinical job. If there weren’t fielding lapses it wasn’t going to go this far anyway,” the RCB skipper said.

After this win, RCB and Delhi play three more games each in Ahmedabad. RCB play Punjab Kings next while Delhi Capitals play KKR.
