Star India batter Virat Kohli had a short stay in the middle as he got out cheaply in the first Test against Bangladesh. The Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram is the host for the first game that got underway on Wednesday, December 14.
KL Rahul, who is leading the side in Rohit Sharma’s absence, decided to bat first on a flat wicket. He and Shubman Gill got India off to a steady start and found the odd boundaries against pacers. However, Bangladesh struck back, picking up three wickets quickly, including that of Kohli.
Virat Kohli, who looked cautious in his approach in the first four balls of his innings, was undone by a turning delivery from Taijul Islam. The ball pitched on the good length and turned enough to beat Kohli’s bat. He went on the back foot to play leg-side, and suddenly the ball spun sharply from the middle of the pitch and struck him on the back pad.
It looked out right from the onset but Virat Kohli decided to go for the review only to see three red dots, which confirmed his dismissal. The talismanic scorer looked devastated as he walked back to the dressing room.

Bangladesh take honours in the opening session of Day 1 against India
Deciding to bat first, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill got India off to a decent start. After 30/0 in seven overs, Bangladesh decided to introduce spinners. Gill opened the door for the hosts with a soft dismissal as he was caught trying to paddle sweep.
The runs suddenly dried out – just 15 runs were scored in 11 overs. Rahul played a false shot to chop on against Khaled Ahmed who bowled a very good second spell. Taijul then got one to turn big to totally defeat Virat Kohli for LBW.

India were under serious pressure losing three wickets for seven runs, but Rishabh Pant came out and did what Pant does. With catching men in the deep, he didn’t care one bit and smacked Taijul and put Bangladesh’s best bowler off lines.
At lunch on Day 1, India are at 85/3 with Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara in the middle.
