Virat Kohli produced a stunning display of batting at the Narendra Modi Stadium, smashing five consecutive boundaries off Kagiso Rabada to reach a special milestone in IPL 2026 on Thursday. In vintage form, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star attacked from the outset, taking apart Rabada in just the second over and leaving fans and experts impressed.
With that sequence, Kohli became only the third RCB batter to hit five or more boundaries in a single over, joining Chris Gayle and Shane Watson in an exclusive list. The feat had previously been achieved only twice in the franchise’s history—Gayle in 2013 against Ishwar Pandey in Bengaluru, and Watson in 2016 against Thisara Perera.
Kohli’s effort in Ahmedabad now adds his name to that elite group, once again highlighting his class and ability to dominate top bowlers. The five boundaries reflected a wide range of shots, including powerful pulls, crisp drives, and precise late cuts, showcasing why Kohli remains one of the most dangerous batters in the game.

Rabada Hits Back After Early Onslaught
Kohli’s early assault brought 21 runs off Rabada’s first over, with the RCB star racing to 28 off just 10 balls. A six off Mohammed Siraj helped him equal the joint-fastest start of his T20 career in terms of runs from his first 10 deliveries. However, the momentum soon shifted.
Rabada responded strongly in his next over, delivering a sharp short ball that rushed Kohli into a mistimed shot. The resulting top edge was safely taken by Rashid Khan at mid-wicket, ending Kohli’s innings at 28 off 13. This marked the fifth time Rabada has dismissed Kohli in T20 cricket, highlighting their competitive rivalry.
Despite the brief knock, Kohli’s explosive start gave RCB early momentum and set the tone for the innings, showcasing his aggressive intent against a top-quality bowler like Rabada.
