Team India star batter Virat Kohli gifted his signed jersey to New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell following the conclusion of the third ODI between the two sides at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 18. Both players shone in the series decider, hitting memorable centuries, as New Zealand overcame a 0-1 deficit to clinch a historic series victory.

Mitchell continued his excellent run against India, scoring his second consecutive century in the series. The No.2-ranked ODI batter struck a brilliant 137 off 131 balls, helping New Zealand post a formidable 337-8 after being sent in to bat. In response, India’s newly crowned No.1 ODI batter led the chase with his 54th ODI century, scoring 124 runs from 108 balls.

However, a lack of support from the other end saw India fall short, losing the match by 41 runs. At the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli approached the New Zealand camp and handed over a signed jersey to Daryl Mitchell, sharing a warm hug in a heartwarming moment.

Daryl Mitchell and Virat Kohli finished as the leading run-scorers in the three-match series. The New Zealand all-rounder, who was named player of the series, scored a remarkable 352 runs at an average of 176, with a strike rate of 110.34.

Daryl Mitchell had previously scored an unbeaten century in New Zealand’s successful run chase in Rajkot and followed it up with another hundred in the third ODI, once again troubling the Indian bowlers. He was eventually dismissed by Mohammed Siraj in the 45th over, having faced a total of 248 balls across the two matches.

As he made his way back to the pavilion, Mitchell was met by Virat Kohli, positioned in the deep, who playfully pushed him beyond the boundary ropes after the batter had caused more damage. Mitchell has now recorded four ODI centuries in his last seven innings against India.
