Former India skipper Virat Kohli stole the show during India’s training session in New York ahead of their T20 World Cup 2024 Group A opener against Ireland. On Monday evening, India spent nearly three hours training at the Nassau County Cricket Ground.

Kohli looked impressive in the nets and batted for nearly 40 minutes to adjust to the conditions in New York. Virat Kohli arrived in the city just the night before the practice match, therefore, he was unable to play for India against Bangladesh on June 1 in New York. After Hardik Pandya’s blitzkrieg in the last overs and Rishabh Pant’s fifty, India won the match by 60 runs, with Kohli resting.

Kohli took maximum advantage of his first-ever knock at the training nets. The great batsman was in the midst of the infield. During his 40-minute session, Kohli faced players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja.

The former captain of India was not included in the first team to travel to the United States since he was playing in the IPL 2024 playoffs. Virat Kohli took a short break following his team’s elimination from the tournament, which caused his trip to be delayed by a few days.

During this period, Kohli was absent from almost every practice session and India’s warm-up match against Bangladesh. The 35-year-old hitter participated in the Team India practice to get ready for the thrilling match against the Irish squad. Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, and other players can be seen in the video with Virat Kohli in New York.

Kohli’s fitness for the T20 World Cup is assured despite these absences. The Orange Cap winner, who scored 741 runs in 15 games, had an incredible IPL 2024 season. His performance thus far suggests that he is ready for the competition.

In addition to his many honours, Kohli continues to hold the record for most runs scored in T20 World Cup history, having scored 1,141 runs in 27 games since making his debut in 2012.
