A fan bypassed security to approach Virat Kohli on Day 1 (Thursday, January 30) of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Railways at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. This marked the former India captain’s first appearance in the red-ball domestic competition in over 12 years.
The fan ran onto the pitch and touched Kohli’s feet before security escorted him off the field. After the fan was removed, Kohli was seen telling the guards not to harm the individual. You can watch the video here:

Thousands of fans gathered at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday to watch Virat Kohli play, with many arriving as early as 3 am to secure a spot.
In the match, Delhi won the toss and opted to field. As of the latest update, Railways were at 66/5 in 19.5 overs. Ayush Badoni is still leading Delhi, after Kohli reportedly declined the Delhi & District Cricket Association’s (DDCA) offer to captain the team for his return match.
Shreevats Goswami Highlights Virat Kohli’s Unwavering Intensity on the Field
Virat Kohli was highly energetic on the field during Day 1 of the Delhi vs Railways Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match. Kohli’s former Under-19 teammate, Shreevats Goswami, noted that the 36-year-old’s intensity remained just as high as in any international match.
Praising Kohli’s constant engagement in the game, Goswami shared his thoughts on the microblogging platform X:
“Runs may come & go but the thing which stands out for Virat Kohli is wherever he plays whether it’s for the country or for his state, he is involved.Stands in slips, claps after a good ball , chats & laughs with his teammate in the slip . The intensity just doesn’t drop. So good to see!”

Kohli’s most recent Ranji Trophy appearance was in November 2012, where he scored 14 and 43 in Delhi’s six-wicket defeat to Uttar Pradesh. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed him in both innings.
