Veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli once again fell cheaply, recording his second consecutive duck in the ongoing second ODI of the three-match series against Australia. The game is being held on Thursday, October 23, at Adelaide Oval. Kohli’s dismissal came on the fifth ball of the seventh over.

Xavier Bartlett bowled a good-length delivery that angled back in sharply, catching the right-hander off balance. Kohli tried to flick the ball but completely missed, leaving him exposed on the inside edge. Umpire Sam Nogajski didn’t hesitate to raise his finger, sending Kohli back to the pavilion.

As he walked off, the veteran acknowledged the crowd with a raised glove, earning a standing ovation in what could be his final appearance in Adelaide. You can watch the video here:

The 36-year-old was out for a four-ball duck, leaving India reeling at 17/2 after 6.5 overs. This marked the first time in Kohli’s illustrious career that he had been dismissed for a duck in back-to-back innings.

Bartlett Strikes Twice, Gill And Kohli Fall In Same Over

Opting to bowl first, the Australian pacers delivered with great discipline, keeping the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill to just 17 runs in the first six overs. In the seventh over, Xavier Bartlett made an immediate impact, dismissing Indian captain Rohit Sharma for a run-a-ball nine with the very first delivery.

Bartlett struck again on the fifth ball of the same over, sending Virat Kohli back for a four-ball duck. Since then, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer have tried to stabilize the innings. At the time of reporting, India were 37/2 after 12 overs, with Rohit on 23 and Iyer on 4.
