[WATCH]- Wankhede Erupts As Rohit Sharma Walks In With T20 World Cup Trophy
"Poke Kroge to mai thodi na chup baithne wala hu...": Rohit Sharma Talks About His Cricketing Journey

Indian World Cup–winning captain Rohit Sharma, who also serves as the brand ambassador for the 2026 T20 World Cup, made a grand appearance with the trophy at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The former India skipper unveiled the silverware alongside International Cricket Council (ICC) President Jay Shah ahead of India’s clash against the USA on Saturday, February 7.

Rohit had guided India to their second T20 World Cup title in the previous edition, held two years ago in the Caribbean. Following that triumph, he announced his retirement from T20 internationals and was later appointed by the ICC as the brand ambassador for the 2026 tournament.

In that role, he was present for the defending champions’ opening fixture. Before the toss, Rohit was seen chatting with former teammate Yuzvendra Chahal and current India captain Suryakumar Yadav.

He then stepped onto the field amid fireworks and deafening chants of “Rohit, Rohit” from the home crowd as he carried the coveted trophy onto the ground. You can watch the video here:

The opener recently took part in the ODI series against New Zealand and is currently enjoying a break, with his next outing scheduled to be the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he will turn out for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Team India Opt To Bat First In T20 WC 2026 Match

USA skipper Monank Patel won the toss at the iconic venue and chose to field first. India captain Suryakumar Yadav revealed that he would have preferred to bat first and confirmed Mohammad Siraj’s inclusion in the playing XI, with Jasprit Bumrah missing out due to illness.

“We would have batted first anyway. Played a lot here, know these conditions well, so, don’t think there will be much dew,” the captain told Ravi Shastri at the toss.

The Men in Blue will be keen to kick off their campaign on a positive note and collect early points. Earlier on the opening day of the tournament, Pakistan and West Indies registered victories over the Netherlands and Scotland respectively.
