KL Rahul, former captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), revealed the reason behind his departure from the franchise just before the LSG vs DC game: that he wanted to be in a team where he could play with some freedom. Rahul joined LSG before the first season of IPL in 2022 and took the franchise to the playoffs for two consecutive years in 2022 and 2023. LSG, however, finished seventh in IPL 2024 with 14 points.

It was said that Rahul and the owner of LSG, Sanjiv Goenka, had a rift after the IPL 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which later turned out to be untrue. Yet, LSG allowed Rahul to be released. LSG has retained Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan.

‘Wanted to start afresh’- Kl Rahul

The former captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), KL Rahul, revealed why he left the squad before the LSG vs. DC game, saying he wanted to join a side that would allow him to play with more freedom.

“I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options and I wanted to go and play where I could find some freedom, where the team atmosphere could be something lighter. Sometimes you need to move away and find something good for yourself,” Rahul said in a video that was shared by broadcasters Star Sports on their “X” handle.

Rahul, who has 741 runs against RCB in 17 matches with an average of 74.1, has always bowled hard and has been an adversary since he exited. Chinnaswamy’s Kantara celebrations made RCB go dazed. Come April 22, Rahul is back where he grew up, Delhi, with a cushion against LSG. Delhi and LSG are contending for a playoff spot, with Delhi bolstered by their impressive performances. In form, Rahul matches up pretty well and could still have quite an influence with a slow track at Ekana.
