It was a day of joy for Pakistani fans and cricketers as Babar Azam’s team defeated New Zealand by seven wickets in the semi-final to seal their place in the final of the T20 World Cup 2022. This was a great turnaround from them as they lost the first two games of their tournament against India and Zimbabwe as well and then managed to qualify for the final on November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as well. Like the fans, some cricketing legends like former Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis, and veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik were ecstatic at this incredible achievement.
However, they were so happy after the game that they broke into some bhangra dance to celebrate the win. Two other legends, Wasim Akram and Misbah Ul Haq also joined them as well. This celebration took place in the post-match analysis show on Pakistan TV Channel A Sports as well.
As far as the match is concerned, it was Pakistan who dominated with both bat and ball. In the first innings, the Pakistani bowlers restricted New Zealand to 152/4, with Daryll Mitchell and Kane Williamson trying to resurrect the ship after the top order failed to contribute. Notably, Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers as he took two crucial wickets as well.
In the second innings, it was Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam who stole the show as they stitched together a 105-ruin opening partnership. Both of them scored their first half-centuries of the tournament. However, after their dismissals, New Zealand managed to put a brake on the flow of runs a bit, but a 26-ball 30 cameo innings from Mohammad Haris helped Pakistan win by 7 wickets as well.
The Men in Green will now take on England in the final of the T20 World Cup on November 13, Sunday at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
