Former India opener Wasim Jaffer humorously took a dig at Pakistan and Bangladesh fans after the second match of the 2025 Champions Trophy. India, led by Rohit Sharma, secured a six-wicket win over Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, February 20, earning their first two points.
Meanwhile, defending champions Pakistan had a disappointing start, suffering a 60-run defeat to New Zealand in their opening match at Karachi’s National Stadium on Wednesday, February 19.
Wasim Jaffer, now a commentator, poked fun at Pakistan fans, joking that they were already busy calculating their team’s semifinal chances. He summed up the situation of fans from all three Asian teams by sharing memes on the microblogging platform X.
“Ind, Ban, and Pak fans after the first 2 days of Champions Trophy.”

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first against India. Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami delivered an exceptional spell, securing his sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs. Towhid Hridoy was Bangladesh’s standout batter, scoring a resilient 100-run knock.
Bangladesh was eventually bowled out for 228. India successfully chased the target in 46.3 overs with six wickets to spare. Opener Shubman Gill smashed his eighth ODI century, remaining unbeaten on 101, and was named Player of the Match for his brilliant performance.
Pakistan and Bangladesh remain in the 2025 Champions Trophy semifinal race
Group A of the 2025 Champions Trophy consists of India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. The top two teams from the group will move on to the semifinals of the ICC tournament. Despite their opening loss, Bangladesh still has a chance to qualify for the semifinals.
To stay in the race, they must win their remaining two matches against New Zealand and Pakistan, securing four points. If India also defeats both New Zealand and Pakistan, they will advance alongside Bangladesh.
Pakistan must also win their last two matches to keep their semifinal hopes alive. If New Zealand manages to defeat India and Bangladesh, they will secure a top-two finish along with Mohammad Rizwan and his team.
