[WATCH] West Indies Make History with Stunning Test Victory Over Australia

In the gripping second Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, the West Indies achieved a remarkable eight-run victory over Australia, courtesy of a breathtaking display by the injured pace bowler Shamar Joseph. His heroic performance came after a challenging night, retiring hurt due to a toe injury inflicted by a Mitchell Starc yorker.

On Sunday, despite the odds, Joseph roared back, claiming 7 wickets for 68 runs and played a pivotal role in dismissing Australia for 207. Entering the fourth day with Australia needing 216 for victory and boasting the formidable presence of Steve Smith and Cameron Green at the crease, the hosts appeared to be cruising towards success.

However, the opening bowlers, Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph, lacked the desired threat. Sensing the urgency, captain Kraigg Brathwaite entrusted Shamar Joseph with the ball, a decision that quickly yielded significant results.

Despite being somewhat expensive, Joseph’s exceptional pace troubled the Australian batsmen, turning the tide in favour of the West Indies. His consecutive dismissals of Green and Head, followed by the removal of Marsh, Starc, Carey, and Cummins in an extended first session, showcased his prowess. The climax of Joseph’s extraordinary spell came when he clean-bowled Hazlewood, sealing the West Indies’ first triumph in Australia since 1997.

Shemar Joseph said: “I was just trying to find my rhythm and that was important for me. I was just thinking of the basics, get it at the top of off.”

Amidst the batting collapse for Australia, Steve Smith showcased resilience, standing firm with a stellar innings of 91. However, despite his valiant efforts, the underdogs emerged victorious, stunning the cricketing world and ending the reign of the world Test champions. Shamar Joseph’s exceptional comeback and match-winning performance will undoubtedly be remembered as a defining moment in West Indies cricket.
