As the Women’s Premier League prepares to commence its latest season in Bengaluru, the buzz surrounding the event appears somewhat subdued compared to the expected fervor. With the league’s inaugural season held in Mumbai, the completion of one cycle brings a mix of hope and curiosity among cricket enthusiasts in Bengaluru, a city renowned for its unwavering support, notably evident during matches featuring its cherished franchise, the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

As spectators make their way to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, there’s a tangible sense of anticipation, albeit quieter than what one might experience during other cricketing spectacles. Walking around the stadium precinct, one immediately notices the absence of the typical fanfare that typically engulfs sports crowds. The usual array of flags, placards, and team merchandise is conspicuously absent, creating an unexpected void in the ambiance. The lack of jersey vendors is particularly noteworthy, hinting at a potential disconnection between the league and its fan base.

As the RCB-W team bus departs from the hotel towards the stadium, a group of female bikers accompanies them on matchday. This gesture of fan support in Bengaluru delighted fans, who shared the heartwarming moment on social media, quickly making the video go viral.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is working to generate excitement with an opening ceremony featuring Bollywood stalwart and Kolkata Knight Riders owner, Shah Rukh Khan, alongside fellow celebrities Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, and Tiger Shroff. In an effort to engage the local community, the BCCI is also offering 500 complimentary tickets to women for the inaugural match and reducing ticket prices to a budget-friendly range of 100-200 rupees per seat. These initiatives aim to enhance local involvement and enthusiasm for the league’s proceedings.
