India’s outstanding fielder Yashasvi Jaiswal produced a brilliant catch to dismiss Shai Hope on Day 3 of the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 4. The 23-year-old dived to take the catch, sending the wicketkeeper-batter back to the pavilion after scoring just one run from 14 balls.

The wicket fell in the 21st over of West Indies’ second innings. Ravindra Jadeja bowled a short delivery outside off, and Hope attempted a cut shot but only managed a top edge. The ball looped toward Jaiswal at short third, and he adjusted his position before diving to secure it cleanly with both hands.

The young star looked elated after completing the catch, celebrating enthusiastically with his teammates. You can watch the video here:

West Indies Collapse To 21/5 In Series Opener; Jaiswal, Reddy Take Brilliant Catches

West Indies struggled with the bat once again in the series opener against India on Day 3 of the first Test. Ravindra Jadeja led the bowling attack, claiming three quick wickets in the morning session, including opener John Campbell (14), Brandon King (5), and Shai Hope (1). At the time of writing, the visitors were 49/5 after 23 overs, with Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves at the crease.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Reddy each took outstanding catches, with Reddy dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Earlier, India had declared their first innings at 448/5 before the start of play. Centuries from Dhruv Jurel (125), Ravindra Jadeja (104*), and KL Rahul (100) highlighted India’s innings, with Jurel and Jadeja sharing a 206-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Captain Shubman Gill also contributed a half-century. On the bowling side, West Indies captain Roston Chase picked up two wickets. India remain unbeaten against West Indies at home since the 1994/95 series, and a victory here would strengthen Shubman Gill’s side’s position at third in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
