Watch – Yuzvendra Chahal Celebrates Early; Stops After Realising That Shreyas Iyer Dropped The Catch

Team India cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal was caught on the wrong foot when he started to celebrate a wicket only to realise that it was for nothing. The incident took place in the 1st T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Lucknow on Thursday.

Defending 199 runs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave India a flying start before Yuzvendra Chahal was introduced into the attack. Bowling the last over of the powerplay, Chahal induced Charith Asalanka to play a wild sweep.

However, it found Shreyas Iyer in the mid-wicket region. There was plenty of time for Iyer to position himself under the ball and grab on to the catch but he misjudged it. In the end, he had to dive forward but ended up dropping a dolly.

Yuzvendra Chahal started celebrating the wicket thinking that Shreyas Iyer had grabbed the catch only to realise he spilled it in the boundary. The 31-year-old cricketer stopped in celebration midway and looked disappointed with Iyer’s efforts.

India produced a compact performance with the ball to restrict Sri Lanka to 137/6 to go 1-0 up in the match. Charith Asalanka was the lone warrior for the Islanders remaining unbeaten on 53 from 47 deliveries.

Venkatesh Iyer and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up two wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal scalped one apiece

Earlier in the day, Ishan Kishan (89) and Rohit Sharma (44) got the hosts off to a flying start. They added 111 runs in 11.5 overs to set the platform for the batters to follow. Shreyas Iyer capitalised on the start, smashing a quickfire 57 off 28 balls to guide India to 199 runs which in the end, proved too much for Sri Lanka.
