“We are very happy that he is leading Punjab Kings” – Preity Zinta On Shreyas Iyer

Bollywood star and Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta shared her thoughts on the team’s captaincy decision during the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Shreyas Iyer is at the helm for Punjab this year. Zinta spoke highly of the Team India batter, commending Shreyas for both his character and leadership qualities.

She described him as a “down-to-earth” individual and an “excellent captain,” praising his tactical intelligence and approach on the field as well.

“Shreyas is a very down to earth guy and an amazing captain. Very tactical and aggressive in his approach as a player, but the sweetest and the most soft-spoken guy,” Preity Zinta wrote on X (Twitter).

She also shared her joy over Shreyas Iyer leading PBKS in IPL 2025, revealing that he was their first and only choice for captaincy this season. Zinta added that the team’s entire auction strategy was planned around him.

“We are very happy that he is leading Punjab kings & happier we could get him in the auction, as he was our first & only choice for captaincy. Therefore, the whole auction revolved around him for us as a team.”

How has Shreyas Iyer performed as the captain of PBKS in IPL 2025 so far?

Shreyas Iyer has performed admirably as the captain of PBKS in IPL 2025. The team kicked off their campaign with victories over Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, maintaining a solid performance. PBKS has secured five wins and suffered three losses in nine matches, earning 11 points after their recent game against Kolkata Knight Riders was abandoned due to rain.

Currently sitting fifth on the points table, they remain in the hunt for a playoff spot. While his leadership has been commendable, Shreyas has also shone with the bat. He has accumulated 288 runs in nine innings, averaging 48 with a strike rate of 182.27. With three half-centuries, he stands as their third-highest run-scorer this season.
