“We Will Fight Fire With Fire Tomorrow” – India Send Strong Message

Team India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate made it clear that the Men in Blue are fully prepared for a fierce battle against the West Indies in their crucial T20 World Cup 2026 clash in Kolkata. The high-pressure encounter at Eden Gardens on Sunday, March 1, is a do-or-die contest in the Super 8 stage. The winner will book a place in the semifinals, while the losing side will be knocked out of the tournament.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ten Doeschate underlined India’s aggressive mindset heading into the game. He acknowledged the reputation of the Caribbean side in T20 cricket but stressed that India are ready to respond in the same manner. He said, “West Indies always give everything in T20 competitions. It is a major focus for them. But it is a challenge we are relishing. We will fight fire with fire tomorrow, and it should be a really good game.” His statement showed confidence and excitement about taking on one of the most explosive teams in the format.

Respect For Windies Power, Confidence In India’s Depth

The assistant coach admitted that the West Indies possess exceptional batting strength, especially with big hitters capable of contributing deep down the order. He pointed out the presence of Romario Shepherd at No. 9 as an example of their depth. He explained, “I do not think there are many line-ups that can boast someone like Romario Shepherd walking in at No. 9. But that is also a feature of all the teams in the tournament now, especially the teams that have done well. England bat really deep, New Zealand bat really deep, India bat really deep. We have the luxury of someone like Axar coming in late if he does not come in early.”

Ryan Ten Doeschate’s comments highlighted that while the West Indies are strong, India also have similar balance and flexibility in their squad. Modern T20 cricket demands depth in batting, and India believe they are equally well-equipped.

Focus On Wickets And A High-Scoring Contest

Discussing strategy, Ten Doeschate stressed that taking wickets will be key against a team that plays an aggressive brand of cricket. He said, “You have to focus on taking wickets. We feel West Indies play a high risk-reward game, and as a bowling unit we are really looking forward to that challenge. We know there are opportunities where we can get wickets and peg them back in that way, much like South Africa did.”

The West Indies recently suffered a heavy defeat to South Africa after collapsing early despite a late recovery. Reflecting on the Kolkata pitch, Ten Doeschate predicted an entertaining contest. He remarked, “The surface looks pretty good, so it could be a high-scoring game. As well as throwing punches with the ball, we will have to make sure we are brave with the bat and maintain a high strike rate and intent throughout.”

With England and South Africa already through to the semifinals, and either New Zealand or Pakistan set to qualify depending on results, the India versus West Indies clash will determine the final team to enter the knockout stage.
