“We Will Keep Fighting”- Sam Curran Issues An Apology To Fans Following Their Elimination From IPL 2024

Punjab Kings’ temporary skipper, Sam Curran, expressed regret to the fans for not meeting their IPL 2024 expectations. Following Mumbai Indians (MI), they were the second team to exit the tournament. Despite this, Curran acknowledged the positives they can draw from this season.

On Thursday, May 9, the Punjab-based team faced their eighth defeat in 12 matches. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a commanding 60-run victory over them in Dharamsala. Despite the efforts of the Punjab batsmen, chasing down the target of 242 runs proved to be a daunting task for the home team.

During the post-match presentation, Curran reflected on the achievement of Punjab Kings in successfully chasing down the highest-ever score in IPL history earlier this season. He explained:

“We had some highs, and some record run-chases as well. Lots of disappointment and apologize to the fans, we will keep fighting. The ups and downs have been quite tough, but you gotta keep learning and keep working hard.”

The home team’s fielding performance in Dharamsala was subpar, as they missed a couple of chances to dismiss Virat Kohli, who eventually scored 92 runs. Kohli led RCB’s batting charge as they amassed 241 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

“I had a great time captaining a fantastic group of individuals”- Sam Curran

The all-rounder from Surrey emphasized the importance of continuous learning and returning stronger next year.

“A lot of positive signs throughout the season, but not enough to get over the line unfortunately. We knew that we had the best side for the rest of the tournament and feel gutted for the team.”

“Gotta keep our heads up, keep learning and keep becoming better. Really enjoyed leading a great bunch of guys, would have loved a few more wins.”

Although Curran performed reasonably well with the ball, claiming 14 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 20.57, he faced challenges with the bat.

The left-handed player accumulated only 207 runs in 12 games, with a highest score of 63. Additionally, PBKS experienced a couple of narrow defeats against the Mumbai Indians and SunRisers Hyderabad.
