The one-day International series between West Indies and Australia is all set to resume from July 25(IST). Notably, the second ODI game was suspended just after Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. The reason for the suspension of the 2nd ODI on July 23 was the Covid-19 case.

A member of West Indies cricket was found covid-19 positive after which the match got suspended. Also soon Cricket West Indies (CWI) sent players, umpires, and all the other members in the isolation. Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies (CWI) released a statement on Saturday which stated:

“All 152 persons tested for Covid-19 returned negative results, following the suspension of the second CG Insurance One-Day International (ODI) before a ball was bowled at Kensington Oval, Barbados.All members of the West Indies and Australia teams and coaching staff, as well as match officials, event staff, and TV production crew were tested back at the hotel with everyone being in room isolation since.”

After the results were found negative Cricket West Indies (CWI) discussed developmentals with various parties. Adding to it CWI discussed the matter with the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA), the Government of Barbados medical officials, and Cricket Australia (CA). After the discussion, all the parties made an official decision to continue the ODI series between the teams.

Currently, Australia is leading the 3 match ODI series by 1-0. However, they faced a 4-1 defeat against Nicholas Pooran led the side in the T20I series.

The CWI president Ricky Skerritt thanked Cricket Australia for cooperating in tough times. Also, Ricky discussed about maintaining the safety of all the players in the camp. He further added that they will continue monitoring the series and will take necessary precautions to conduct the series safely. He said:

“We are happy to be able to announce the restart of the CG Insurance ODI series at Kensington Oval tomorrow. We want to thank our counterparts at CA for their co-operation in this matter as we look to get the games going again.

“Special thanks to our CEO Johnny Grave, Chairman of Cricket Australia, Earl Eddings, his CEO Nick Hockley along with our respective medical and operations teams. I appreciate the crucial role of the BCA and the Government of Barbados for working closely with CWI to ensure everything is in place for resuming the series.”

“It has been a challenging two days and we have worked very swiftly and safely, following all the established medical protocols, to make sure that all necessary precautions are in place to ensure that we can go ahead to resume play safely, tomorrow. We will continue to monitor the situation and respond accordingly,” added Skerritt.

Notably Australia vs West Indies ODI series is a part of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Super League. Also, both sides will be looking forward to achieving crucial points from the series. The teams with a decent amount of points will get the direct qualifications for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Adding to it the World Cup 2023 is scheduled to happen in India.
