The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is near the edge with the four best teams – Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from the two-month-long demanding tournament.
For a place in the final, the first Qualifier will be played between GT and RR on May 24 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. While LSG, the number three in the tournament so far, will face RCB in the Eliminator, which will be played on May 25, at the same venue in Kolkata.
The defeated team from the Qualifier 1, will face the Eliminator winner in the Qualifier 2, on May 27, at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. In the end, the winners of Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 will fight for the title of IPL 2022.
Considering the weather conditions across the country, especially in Kolkata, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the IPL authorities have set some rules regarding reserve days, if the conditions get worse. Besides, the weather officials have predicted a thunderstorm alert for the Qualifier 1 game between Titans and Royals, in Kolkata.
The Reserve Day rules for the IPL 2022 final clash
There are no reserve days for the two Qualifiers and the Eliminator in the ongoing IPL 2022. Hence, according to the ESPNcrincinfo, a cricket news website, if one innings is complete but no play is possible in the second, the DLS method will be applied to determine the match result
If the game is forsaken entirely, the team finishing higher in the points table will go onwards. Going into the reserve day concern for the final battle, the report has stated that if the game doesn’t get completed on the scheduled day, then it would be played on the reserve day.
Furthermore, the report added that the game will go on from right where it stopped on the previous day and any recalculations concluded with the game not restarting on the previous day will be wholly disregarded.
Moreover, the report added, “In case no play is possible after the toss in the final, teams will have a fresh toss on the reserve day. The IPL has said the reserve day will comprise the same amount of playing time – five hours and 20 minutes including the two extra hours available in case of any disruption or rain.”
