Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata is scheduled to host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It’s going to be a massive occasion for Kolkata to host the playoffs. However, Rain and thunderstorms in Kolkata have caused damage at the Eden Gardens stadium.

Kolkata witnessed heavy thunderstorms and rain on Saturday evening. It caused some damage at the Eden Gardens Stadium ahead of two IPL play-offs matches. The name of the storm was Nor’wester, which is locally also called Kalbaisakhi. 

The storm shattered the glass covers of the press box. Several hoardings and the cover were also blown away by the massive thunderstorm. Flight of table-toppers Gujarat Titans was also delayed due to the thunderstorm in Kolkata.

A CAB official cleared that it won’t create much impact on playoff matches. CAB officials said the “Damages were minor and will not affect their preparation for the matches. We still have two days in between. Everything will be ready and the press box glass will be fixed in time,” said an official.

The first playoff is going to take place on Tuesday. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT) would face each other in Qualifier 1. The team winning this match will make it to the finals. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) would face each other in the Eliminator match on Wednesday.

The Gujarat Titans flight was scheduled to land at 5 pm. But it landed after a two-hour delay in Kolkata. All the players were finally safely landed. An ATC official said, “The players were scared but everyone landed safely and checked into the team hotel.”
