BCCI has announced the 17-member India squad for the rescheduled 5th Test against England, set to be played at Edgbaston from July 1-5. The match will decide the outcome of the five-match series, which India currently leads 2-1.

Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara has made a comeback in the Indian team courtesy of great performances in County Championship Division 2, playing for Sussex. He slammed 4 centuries in 8 innings, averaging 120. Previously, Pujara was dropped for the two-match Home Test series against Sri Lanka in March.

Ravindra Jadeja, who picked up a rib injury (and was later ruled out from the tournament) while trying to attempt a catch against RCB in IPL 2022, is also a part of the Test squad. Young Pacer Prasidh Krishna has also been included in the squad. In 2021 England series, he was a part of the team as a reserve bowler.

Opening Batter Shubman Gill has also been included in the squad. Last time the youngster had to return back home from UK due to a shin injury. Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has failed to make it to the squad.

Rohit Sharma-led India eye first Test series victory in England since 2007

Earlier, the fifth Test was scheduled to start on September 10 2021, but was postponed indefinitely due to Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp.

Test specialists of the Indian team are expected to fly to England on 15 June. A win or a draw in the match would give India their first Test series victory in England since 2007.

India’s Test squad for the fifth rescheduled Test against England: Rohit Sharma (Capt), KL Rahul (VC), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), R Jadeja, R Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna
