Wheelchair Cricketers To Celebrate Birth Anniversary Of Sardar Patel With Sardar Patel Unity Cup 2022

The Differently Abled Cricket Council Of India (DCCI)- a BCCI-supported body for the development and promotion of Divyang Cricket in India and Big Bash Sports League, a Mumbai based Sports organisation has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel with Divyangjan.

Sardar Patel Unity Cup – T-20 Wheelchair Cricket tournament will witness the participation of 34 Players from across the nation, representing two wheelchair cricket teams i.e. India A & Rest Of India.

Sqn Ldr Abhai Pratap Singh (Retd.), Jt. Secy of DCCI said:

“This event is inspired by the iron resolve of Sardar Patel, who United our nation at the time of Independence. Such an event showcasing the grit & determination of Wheelchair Cricketers from across India will be a true tribute to the legacy of Sardar Patel”

The tournament will start with the Opening Ceremony on October 28 and with a total of six T20 matches, the tournament will conclude on October 30 and will take place in Surat, Gujarat.

Mehul Pithawalla of BBSL said:

“The aim of this tournament is not only to showcase the grit determination & talent of Wheelchair Cricketers but also to create awareness among the society so as to spread the message of Social Inclusion and address the accessibility related issues.”

Shital Pithawalla of BBSL added:

“Dr. Kanubhai Tailor, Padmashree and renowned Disability Rights Activist is the brand ambassador of the Sardar Patel Unity Cup, T-20 Wheelchair Cricket, 2022. This cricket tournament has an underlying message of Disability Awareness and Social Inclusion & we are appealing to the social circle of Surat city to share the message and help us spread the word.”

Ravikant Chauhan, Gen Secy of DCCI told:

“Out of 34 Wheelchair Cricketers, Somjeet Singh from Uttar Pradesh is Captain of Team ‘India-A’ and Veer Singh Sandhu from Punjab will lead ‘Rest Of India’ Team. These two teams will have a mix of Wheelchair Cricketers from across India. 2 Wheelchair Cricketers from Mumbai have been selected for the Unity Cup namely Rahul Ramugade & Santosh Sarjerao Ranjagane for Team Rest Of India”

The Unity Cup finals will be played on October 30, 2022, followed by the Closing Ceremony. This will be the first time, such a Differently-Abled Cricket tournament will be held in Surat honouring the legacy of Sardar Patel.
