Why Is Host Nation’s Name Missing From Asia Cup 2023 Logo?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is being criticised by former cricketers and fans for the absence of the country’s name on the team jerseys for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The continental championship kicked off on August 30 with Pakistan taking on Nepal in Multan. However, the absence of the country’s name on the team jerseys left the fans and some of the former Pakistan cricketers fuming.

In the Asia Cup, usually, the host nation’s name appears on the logo and the jerseys of the players. However, in the ongoing edition, neither Pakistan nor Sri Lanka’s name is on the jersey. A report by NDTV revealed why the host’s name has been missing. The report stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board has unofficially mentioned that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) introduced a new rule, effective from this year’s Asia Cup which prohibits mentioning the name of the host country.

This is unacceptable: Rashid Latif on this host’s name missing from Asia Cup 2023 team’s jersey

Several former Pakistan cricketers slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as the Asian Cricket Council over the decision. Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif expressed that it is unacceptable and the boards must reveal the reason officially. He said as quoted by PTI,

“This is unacceptable and it is the Asian Cricket Council that must explain this oversight since the Asia Cup is their property.”

Former Test cricketer Mohsin Khan said, “Makes no sense at all. Then why has the ACC given the host country’s name on the logos for their Asian Emerging Nations Cup or their Asian under-16 event held in July in Malaysia.”
