Mumbai Indians (MI), the most successful Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise so far, are virtually out of the tournament. With eight successive defeats in their account, MI had an appalling run throughout the IPL 2022. Whether it’s been batting unit or bowling, MI seemed to be incredibly inconsistent.

Mumbai won their first match in the tournament against Rajasthan Royals (RR), last week. Kumar Kartikeya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tim David aided the five-time winners, to add the first points of the tournament.

MI has tried several different playing XI combinations, in the season. The MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene recently opened up on the debut of Arjun Tendulkar in blue and gold.

The Sri Lankan veteran stated during a press conference: “Well, I think everyone in the squad is an option. We will see how things go. It is about match-ups and how we can win the matches and our priority is to make sure that we get the right match-ups”

“Every game is a confidence thing, we managed to get our first win and it is about stringing wins together and getting the confidence back. It is about putting the best guys in the park. If Arjun is one of them, then we will consider it, yes, but it all depends on the combination that we put out.” he added.

While Arjun Tendulkar, the left-arm pacer, has recently played two T20 matches for Mumbai (domestic cricket), in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. There, he picked up two wickets, conceding runs at an economy of 9.57.

Also, the 22-year-old has some experience of playing cricket in England, as he has played in the second Eleven Championship, back in 2019. Mumbai Indians (MI) bought Tendulkar for INR 30 lakh, through the IPL mega auction 2022.

Mumbai Indians set to face table-toppers Gujarat Titans

For Mumbai, nothing has been right, this season. After their first win, MI is set to face the best in the tournament so far, Gujarat Titans (GT). Hardik Pandya, the former Mumbai Indian-led GT, is at the top and tough to beat. The contest will be in action on Friday, May 6, at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
