Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra is unsure about Dinesh Karthik’s place in the Indian playing XI. The Asia Cup 2022 tournament is likely to witness the return of senior India players, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul. However, this will make things difficult for Dinesh Karthik, who has played the finisher’s role well, to find a place in the XI.
The Indian selectors will be keen to finalize the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 during the Asia Cup. Dinesh Karthik has been performing well for India this year in T20 matches. Batting lower down the order, he has contributed crucial runs at a brisk rate. In thirteen matches, he has scored 174 runs at a strike rate of 138.09. However, his place isn’t certain for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
In a video on Aakash Chopra’s Youtube channel, the former cricketer expressed that Dinesh can make it to the team only if Rishabh Pant is left out. He stated,
“I will tell you why – because hypothetically Rohit and Rahul, then Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and four bowlers. How will you play Dinesh Karthik? An even bigger question will be – Will Dinesh Karthik continue as a finisher ? Will Rishabh Pant play and Karthik will be left out? You might be thinking why am I talking about that.”

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra further explained why he feels Dinesh Karthik might not make it to the XI. He expressed that India has played Karthik as a finisher in T20Is this year. Stating his top six for the tournament, Aakash Chopra questioned Dinesh Karthik’s place in the team.
“So that is my big question that all our dress rehearsals for Dinesh Karthik have been done as a finisher. But who will go out if you want to play him as a finisher? Rohit, Rahul, Virat, SKY, Hardik and sixth is Pant. Can Pant and Dinesh Karthik play together? You will come to know in this tournament what the team is thinking,” said Aakash Chopra.
Team India will play their opening clash of Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan on August 28. The clash between the arch-rivals will take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
