Women’s indoor cricket competition in Kolkata

Kolkata, 16 February:

The inaugural edition of The Cricketer's League, an eight-team indoor cricket tournament for women was organised by DITVIAAN in association with the Indoor Cricket Association of Bengal at Turf XL, New Alipore here yesterday and today.

The eight teams comprising eight players each that took part in the competition were Trustedarm, M&B Desi Belle, Four Bridges, Baid Blasters, Head and Textures, Nastos, Labelz and The On Cafe. Baid Blasters eventually emerged triumphant by defeating M&B Desi Belle by eight runs in the final.

Present at the event was former captain of the Indian indoor cricket team Aparup Chakraborty who shared his experience with the participants and demonstrated to them among other things the importance of the V grip.

"The aim of the competition is two-fold: to ensure a larger participation by women in the sport and to promote indoor cricket. We are focused on preparing a pool of women cricketers who could go on to play for the state in near future. I'll communicate our vision to Cricket Association of Bengal president Abhishek Dalmiya and request him to take steps to promote this format", said Chakraborty on the sidelines of the competition.
